This pinball is based on the mega-popular board game of the same name. I purchased my Monopoly new-in-the-box from the distributor. It's a wonderful game, designed by Pat Lawlor (the same guy responsible for such great games as Twilight Zone, No Good Gofers, Addams' Family, and many more). Pat Lawlor has long been my favorite pinball designer, and having a game of his that I purchased new is a real treat. When Williams went out of the pinball scene, there was concern amongst collectors that we might never again see pinball machines from some of the great designers like Pat Lawlor, John Popaduik, and others. Well, Pat Lawlor began his own design company for coin-op equipment called Pat Lawlor Designs, Inc. This allowed him the freedom of working for Stern Pinball, or any other company for that matter. Fortunately, Stern Pinball was very interested in using Pat's company to create a new game, which is just what happened with Monopoly.

The results of this collaboration are WONDERFUL. THANK YOU Pat Lawlor, his design team, and Stern Pinball for such an awesome game!

Here are some pictures of my Monopoly machine. Pictures of the grand unboxing ceremony are coming soon.

The New-In-Box Monopoly on the handtruck, on my back porch. Great, the box is too big to fit through the doorway. No problem, let's just unbox it outside!! (Sorry about the camera strap in this picture.) A close-up of the serial number and stamps on box.

The first peek into the box. Let's get a better look at that coin door.

Almost all the way out of the shipping crate. All the way out of the box and flipped into the upright and truckable position.

Here, to protect it on the journey to my pinball room, we've wrapped it with stretch wrap. Whew! It's finally in the pinball room. (Easier said than done, my pinball room is on the second-floor!)

Front legs on. All legs on.

Lifting the head. First look at the playfield.

Another look at the playfield. Don't use the plunger as a handle.

WOOHOO! It works! This picture is of the game soon after its first power-up. The playfield, all lit up after its first power-on.

A full playfield view of Monopoly. The upper playfield section of Monopoly.

mon-lowerpfs.jpg

The middle section of the Monopoly playfield. A view of the lower portion of the Monopoly playfield.

mon-signs.jpg

The Bank Vault Door. Opens and closes to allow or disallow you to shoot up the ramp. The Mini-DMD sign. Shows current information about the game in progress. Very neat toy.

mon-waterworksflippers.jpg

mon-cabsides.jpg

The spinning WaterWorks mini-flipper. Spins to make skill shots, and shooting the WaterWorks hole more difficult. This spinning mini-flipper also kicks the ball out of the WaterWorks hole. The awesome cabinet artwork for Monopoly. John Youssi (the Monopoly game artist) is one of my favorite pinball artists. He's got many, many games to his credit.

mon-coindoors.jpg

The side art on the game's head. The Monopoly coin door and front-cabinet view.

This is cool. I have a Monopoly flyer that was signed by Gary Stern (of Stern Pinball) and Pat Lawlor (designer of the Monopoly pinball machine). Pat Lawlor is the designer behind many of my favorite pinball machines. A friend got this signed and gave it to me. Even though I didn't get the signature myself, it's still cool to have Pat Lawlor's signature. The Monopoly Backglass, showing more of John Youssi's cool artwork.
